Auto-Theft Suspect Leads Police On Road Chase Near SDSU

The suspect fled over various streets, getting into a collision with another vehicle during the process, officials said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man who allegedly stole a pickup truck from outside a Rolando business Friday led officers on a brief pursuit that ended with his arrest in the nearby College area, authorities reported.

The auto theft in the 6000 block of El Cajon Boulevard was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

Patrol officers caught up with the stolen truck a short time later on College Boulevard, near University Avenue, Sgt. Michael Stirk said.

The suspect fled over various streets, getting into a collision with another vehicle and doubling back to the north before winding up boxed in at a parking lot on College Place, just south of San Diego State University.

He then refused to exit the truck for a few minutes before surrendering and being taken into custody about 10:45 a.m., Stirk said.

The suspect's name was not immediately available.

The owner of the truck reported that he had left his keys in the vehicle prior to the theft, the sergeant said.
