Bobby Wright, 85; World War II Veteran and Postal Worker

Plus other La Mesans in memoriam: Andrew Taft, 20.

Like many veterans who spent time in San Diego during their tour of duty, Bobby Wright relocated to America’s Finest City after his service in World War II. He attended San Diego State to set a foundation for the civilian life.

But he wasn’t quite settled, and after meeting his bride, Virginia, they chose La Mesa as their home, raising two sons and a daughter.

Bobby Wright, 85, died May 29 with his family by his side.

Wright continued to serve after the war, working for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1980.  And he was known throughout his family as a golf nut, spending as much time as he could on East County’s pastoral links.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the Bonita Country Club.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
