Yummy Food in La Mesa, and Healthy Options, Too
I have been in East County almost my whole life and I discover new places all the time.
My first “non” photography related blog post! I debated what I should write about since I run an on-location photography studio in La Mesa (Stills by Hill Photography) and writing something for a different “subject” is a bit of “thinking outside of the box” for me.
Then it dawned on me. I am a mom and I am very picky with nutrition for my daughter (who is 2.5 years old) and it got me thinking about how La Mesa has some wonderful opportunities for healthier eating options.
When it comes to restaurants, I am absolutely in love with any place that offers a vegetarian menu, or something on the healthier side. Being that I am in my studio often, I do walk up and down the village and eat with clients or friends.

One of my favorite places is Swami’s. If you haven’t been there, you NEED to check it out. They have healthier options (but still indulgences) and also plenty of yummy healthy food I can give my daughter. The portions are big enough too that we share our food often. I also love Mario’s Mexican—however I wouldn’t call it healthy.
If you are on the other side of La Mesa near Costco, you should head into Bazaar Mediterranean cuisine for a quick eat—get your fiber fill with falafel and some yummy hummus (but I prefer to do take out here.)

What about shopping? Good thing La Mesa has some great options for fruits and veggies. Henrys on Spring Street is where I am a few times a week stocking up on goods. You can also find me most Fridays (when I am not with a client) over at the Farmers Market grabbing some organic fruits.
The samples are wonderful (my daughter loves that aspect!) and sometimes we grab some fresh flowers. And talking about healthy foods would not be right without mentioning my all time favorite—Trader Joes. Where else can I get about 75% of my groceries and have them all be organic and/or something I would let my daughter eat?
I have been in East County almost my whole life and I discover new places all the time. Being as picky as I am with food, it makes it difficult to shop and eat out, but I am in love with a few little spots that keep me coming back again and again.
