Imagine what it was like to live and work in the dusty town of Nazareth, just as Jesus was beginning his ministry around Galilee. You’d hear whisperings about Mary’s son, Jesus-the local carpenter’s kid who says he’s the Son of God. Maybe the boy Jesus even had dinner at your house or played tag with your kids. As you tend your sheep or bake, perhaps you secretly wonder if it’s really possible that Jesus-the boy down the street-could be the Messiah.
At Hometown Nazareth, everyone will get to explore the culture of Jesus’ boyhood. Too often, the bible just feels like an old history book. After all, those things did happen a long time ago. Kids and adults might sometimes forget that Jesus was a boy who had a family, friends, neighbors, a home, and a church. In Mark 6, Jesus returned to his hometown…and got an unfriendly reception from many of his neighbors.
Every day, kids and adults will be challenged to share God’s love and their belief in Jesus with shopkeepers, Mary’s neighbor, the tax collector, the rabbi, and the Fun and Games leader.
