Gov. Jerry Brown Appoints La Mesa Police Chief to Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training

LA MESA, CA – Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday appointed the La Mesa police chief to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.

El Cajon resident Walter Vasquez, 53, has headed the La Mesa Police Department since last year. He previously served at the San Diego Police Department for nearly 30 years, from 1986 to 2015, rising to assistant chief.

Vasquez, a Republican, is a member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy Associates and the San Diego Youth Services Board of Directors.

The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training position requires Senate confirmation. There is no compensation.
