La Mesa groundbreaking held for affordable housing (nbcsandiego.com) — A new 147-unit affordable housing complex, Spring View Apartments, is underway right next to La Mesa's Spring Street trolley stop, bringing income-restricted studios and family-sized units for residents earning 30–60% of area median income. Backed by county funding, housing vouchers, and on-site amenities like play areas, community rooms, and solar power, the project aims to turn an underused park-and-ride lot into transit-connected homes.
   

2. La Mesa Plans First Pride Event for Summer 2027 (santeepulse.com) — La Mesa is gearing up for its first-ever Pride celebration, tentatively planned for June 2027 in the La Mesa Village area near Allison and Palm. The City Council has committed $15,000 and is working with Diversionary Theatre, with supporters saying the event will give LGBTQ+ residents a local gathering and boost nearby shops and restaurants as details are finalized.

A change at the top of San Diego Community Power but no reason given for CEO's departure (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Leadership is changing at San Diego Community Power, the agency that supplies electricity to La Mesa and several neighboring cities, after CEO Karin Burns quietly concluded her tenure. Officials have not explained her departure but say an open search for a new chief will begin soon, while staff continue pursuing renewable energy goals and stable rates for local customers.
   

5. New Law Will Give Californians Clearer Information on Restaurant Menus About Beverages High in Added Sugar (ca.gov) — A new California law will soon require large chain restaurants to post clear warnings on menus when drinks contain a full day's worth of added sugar, affecting La Mesa diners along with the rest of the state. The bill's author, whose district includes La Mesa, says the goal is to give families straightforward health information at the moment they order, not to restrict choices.
