Lee McAllister Leads Helix Cross-Country Team to Second-Place Finish at League
Highlander senior takes third overall in 5-kilometer race at Steele Canyon High School in Spring Valley.
With a third-place individual finish overall, Helix Charter High School senior Lee McAllister led the Highlanders to second place Saturday morning in the Grossmont Hills League Championship.
Steele Canyon High School of Spring Valley, which hosted the event, won the team title. (Complete results are posted here.)
McAllister won the league title but was third in the Grossmont Hills and Valley league combined race over a 3.1-mile course that snaked through the campus and finished on the track. His time was 16 minutes, 50 seconds.

Helix sophomore Samantha Bojorquez finished seventh in the girls varsity division in 16:19, with the race being 2.54 miles.
The San Diego CIF championships will be held next Saturday at Morley Field in Balboa Park.

Other Helix varsity runners at the district championship were Christi Magracia, 15th in 16:42; Adrienne Elliott, 18th in 16:55; Sara Remmes, 17:14; Slyvia Ralston in 17:50; and Clara Toma in 17:54.
Helix boys included: Carlos Cano, fourth in 17:07; Mario Gutierrez, eighth in 17:40; Trevor Garcia, 17:41; Shelby Hernandez, 18:39; Sam Stowe, 18:46; Tu Luu, 19:06; and Joel Ortiz, 19:19.
Grossmont High varsity girls included Emily Palmer, 17:09; Kaytlan Camarero 17.17; and Christina Valdez, 17:38. Grossmont varsity boys included Adam Omahen, 14th in 18:01; Ben Beck, 18.28; and Daniel Beach, 19:06.
In the junior varsity division, Helix girl finishers included Grace Dion, 19:42, and Savannah Rucker. Junior varsity Helix boy runners included Isaiah Saucier, 15:07; Jeremy Cole, 15:22, and John Stowe, 15:27.
Grossmont junior varsity girls included: Alicia Kilgore, sixth in 19:42; and Gabby Miller, 20:02. Grossmont junior varsity boys included Tyler Jewel, 15:21; and Brian Parker, 16:01.
