Mary Elaine McCormick, 89; Charity-Minded Seamstress
Plus, other La Mesans in memoriam: Hazel Williams, 89; and Donald James Ruiz, 76.

Like many mothers with a knack for needle and threadwork, Mary McCormick sewed many of her children’s clothes while they were growing up. But she was not content to let her children alone benefit from her talents.
Along with her quilting friends, McCormick made thousands of baby quilts, bibs, knitted caps and booties—and donated them to various local charities.
Mary McCormick, 89, died peacefully in her La Mesa home on May 31.

In addition to sewing, McCormick also enjoyed the outdoors and traveling, traversing across the country with her husband of over 68 years, Joe McCormick, in their motor home. She was also an avid gardener and, according to those close to her, a loyal and giving friend.
In honor of her memory, a memorial contribution may be made in lieu of flowers to Kaiser Hospice or Catholic Charities USA.
