Small Fire Burns On Mt. Helix Drive

Authorities are trying to determine who may have caused last night's fire.

Firefighters put out a small fire Monday night on Mount Helix, before it got out of control.

The fire started around 5:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Mount Helix Drive, burning only a 20 by 20 foot space. Firefighters responded after a residential call to 911 was made, San Miguel Fire District Public Information Officer Leonard Villareal said.

Authorities have not determined if the fire as an accident or an act of arson as of yet, but Villareal said it was caused by human(s). No structure or property was damaged by the fire.

Witnesses reported seeing three young adults leaving the area around the time of the fire and authorities will review surveillance tape from the area as part of the investigation.
