Accused Orinda Bank Robber Arrested At Oakland Hills Home

OAKLAND, CA — A man accused of two bank robberies in Orinda was arrested in Oakland Tuesday, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said in a release. Both Orinda and Oakland police took part in the arrest of 49-year-old Duane Makela at his home in the Oakland Hills.

Makela was identified as the suspect in the robberies during a joint investigation with the FBI. He was arrested without incident just before 7 a.m. in the 3600 block of Broadway.

According to the sheriff's office, "Makela’s vehicle was also searched. A possible explosive device was located in his car; the device was rendered safe."

Makela was booked into the Martinez Jail on robbery and drug possession charges.
