Orinda's City Council Announced Several General Plan Modification to Accommodate ABAG's Larger Low-Income Housing Vision, Unless Residents Say "No"
On June 18, 2013 Orindan City Council reported on the city's discussions with the State Housing and Community Development Agency (HCD). The gist of this report was that Orinda should be partially rezoned to allow for high-density apartment buildings and mixed use development (multifloor condos over retail).
Without a major pushback from Orinda residents, the City Council is very likely to pass these recommendations within the next two months. And if that happens, it won't make any difference if Plan Bay Area is enacted or not -- because Orinda will have already made the objectives of Plan Bay Area into City Law!
So it seems not only are our elected representatives not fighting the high-growth, stack-and-packing housing goals of Plan Bay Area, they are also ready to give up local control and start Orinda on the path to bringing in hundreds of new residents -- which may bring tax increases, overcrowded schools, and a deterioration of our small-town, semi-rural way of life.
