Child Pornography Charges: Lafayette Man, Oakland Fire Captain Arrested

Oakland Fire Capt. Richard Chew is accused of having more than 600 images of child and youth pornography.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA - A Lafayette man, 58-year-old Richard Chew, has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography, a spokeswoman for the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office said.

Chew is a captain for the Oakland Fire Department. He is being held at the county jail in Martinez in lieu of $200,000 bail, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

Oakland Fire Department Interim Chief Darin White said today that he is "appalled by the disturbing nature" of the charges.
