The city has not announced the date when Cervantes, Wotherspoon, and DiPrisco will be sworn into office.
Canceling the municipal races will not affect Lafayette voters' ability to participate in the Nov. 3 General Election, which includes other federal, state, regional, and local issues. Officials said the move would save the city at least $48,000 in election expenses but provided no details on what the figure was based on.
Contra Costa County coordinates voter registration and voting for the election.
