Suspected Lafayette Burglars Caught in Orinda
BREAKING: "... the suspects were actively seeking a residence to burglarize when intercepted by the Orinda Officer."

LAMORINDA, CA — Three suspects were taken into custody in connection with a Lafayette home burglary that happened on Dec. 14. One suspect was arrested, a juvenile was released to their parents and the third person was released.

Following the burglary, police asked residents for surveillance video or photos that could show the suspects. Several residents provided the materials to police which allowed them to get a license plate number.

According to a bulletin by Lafayette Police Chief Eric Christensen, "On Tuesday ... an Orinda Police Officer was on patrol when he spotted the vehicle driving on Moraga Way in Orinda. The officer performed a records check on the vehicle, which verified this was the vehicle associated with the Lafayette burglary. The officer followed the vehicle until joined by other officers and a traffic stop of the vehicle was performed. Three subjects were located within the vehicle and all were detained without incident."
After obtaining a search warrant, the car was searched by LPD CSI personnel. Evidence collected included gloves, an emergency window punch and other items that will likely help investigators identify the subjects involved in the burglary.

Christensen also said in his bulletin, "Investigators later learned the suspects were actively seeking a residence to burglarize when intercepted by the Orinda Officer."
Property taken in the original burglary has not been recovered.
