LAMORINDA, CA —Crews are expected to stay late into the evening to repair a 12-inch water main that broke in Orinda this morning, according to the East Bay Municipal Utility District.
The break was reported at about 7:55 a.m. near the intersection of Moraga Way and Glorietta Boulevard.
A gas line was also punctured by asphalt near the main break, so EBMUD crews had to wait until PG&E repaired the gas line before starting their own repairs.

The section of the cast iron pipe that broke was installed in 1955, EBMUD spokeswoman Tracie Morales said.
The pipe is adjacent to Moraga Way so crews are able to make repairs without closing one of the lanes, although some traffic impacts are expected, Morales said.

Three customers were briefly without service as a result of the break but EBMUD crews restored their service by connecting to a temporary main, she said.
The flow of water might have caused property damage to up to six properties along Glorietta Boulevard, but the damage was primarily to landscaping, according to Morales.
