Boyer Voted King of the Hill in MCAL Softball

The Redwood senior is selected as Pitcher of the Year for the 2011 season; four other Giants earn honors, including first-team all-leaguers Lindsey Matteo and Megan Atkinson.

It was the Year of the Pitcher in Marin County Athletic League girls softball, and according to the coaches, ace was the best of the best.

The Redwood senior was selected as the MCAL's Pitcher of the Year in the annual balloting of the coaches for the all-league teams.

The honor capped a brilliant career for Boyer, who was a second-team all-leaguer as a freshman before earning first-team honors the past two seasons.

The Giants, who won both the MCAL regular-season and playoff titles, had five players honored, the most of any school.

and made the All-MCAL first team, was voted onto the second team, and was bestowed an Honorable Mention distinction. All are seniors.

For Matteo, the first-team honor was her third in a row, whereas Atkinson moved up from the 2009 and '10 Honorable Mention ranks. Rubin, meanwhile, also was an All-MCAL second-teamer as a junior.

Joining Matteo and Atkinson on the All-MCAL first team were Tam's Kim Scarsella and Stephanie Lee, San Marin's Dani Albini and Gianna Bruschera, Terra Linda's Ally Lucchi, Marin Catholic's Neika Petersen and San Rafael's Brianna Williams.

Justin-Siena's Hailey Breakwell earned Player of the Year honors for the second year in a row.
