The 2011 Marin Group’s Annual Awards Gala will be a stimulating evening of camaraderie, excellent food and wine, a terrific guest speaker and worthy awardees. The evening’s featured speaker will be Cecily Muldoon, the new Superintendent of the Point Reyes National Seashore, who will share some of her experiences in the National Park Service.

Saturday:
Wine, Women & Song presents the 13th Annual Benefit for the Fight against Breast Cancer. Proceeds go to local breast cancer agencies, like Zero Breast Cancer of Marin, which is helping find the reason Marin has one of the highest rate of breast cancer in the world and To Celebrate Life Foundation, which is helping with education, awareness and patient services. Over twenty singers and a six piece band will perform songs by artists who’ve had breast cancer such as Nanci Griffith, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge and more.

Yusef Komunyakaa says, “Seldom does beauty collide naturally with gravity, but that is what happens in Diane Kirsten Martin’s Conjugated Visits repeatedly.” In response to the unexpected death of her sister, Katharine Washburn, Mary Winegarden has taken on the challenge of translating their lives into living language with The Translator’s Sister. Winegarden will be joined by poets Jennifer Arin and Anita Cabrera.
