Celebrating the paperback release of Island Beneath the Sea!, Isabel Allende discusses her novel. The tale, set in Haiti and the southern United States during the 18th Century, follows the life of a young woman sold into slavery at age nine to the head of a large sugar plantation. Allende is the author of many internationally acclaimed novels, including House of the Spirits, Portrait in Sepia, and Daughter of Fortune.
If you go: The ticket price of $55 including lunch and a signed book. A place can be reserved by calling  (415) 927-0960 ext. 1 . The event begins at noon at , 51 Tamal Vista Blvd. in San Anselmo.

Saturday:

Celebrate spring at Bon Air Center’s Spring Fling. Enjoy a taste of the season with the many samples offered and then kick back to the upbeat music of Faith Ako, a lovely combination of Polynesian and contemporary music. There’s more family entertainment in the afternoon with Benny the Wizard in his Magic Circus Family.
If you go: The fair is 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the , in Greenbrae. Faith Ako goes on stage from noon - 2 p.m. with the magic circus beginning at 2 p.m.

Saturday:

Come by and check out this fundraiser for Casa de la Esperanza Orphanage in Tijuana featuring local teen bands from Redwood, Marin Academy and Novato high schools: Handshake, The Cosmic Shenanigans, POOK, Stone Cold Culture, The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, The Jack Straw Band, and SoulTree, who will all play original material.  Also featured are paintings, drawings and photos for sale including a raffle with a prize of  two tickets to see Usher live in concert.

In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and Kaiser Permanente have teamed up to provide free full-body skin screenings to members of our community.
