Who Can Replace The Giants' Cabrera?

The 'Melk Man' left fielder will miss the rest of the regular season and beyond without pay for his use of a performance-enhancing substance, according to Major League Baseball.

At the end of last night's victory over the Washington Nationals, the San Francisco Giants appeared to finally, with just 45 games left in the regular season, have solidified their starting line-up. But today, one of the stars of that line-up, left fielder Melky Cabrera, will have to sit out the rest of the season after testing positive for testosterone, a performance-enhancing substance.

And now, the Cubs' Alfonso Soriano says he probably wouldn't OK a trade to the Giants, "because San Francisco is not good weather to play," he told ESPN.com.

According to an article on MLB.com, Cabrera, this year's All-Star MVP, was suspended for 50 games on Wednesday by Major League Baseball. By testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, the second-leading hitter in the National League is in violation of MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

"My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used," Cabrera said in a statement issued by the MLB Players Association. "I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down," he said.

The Giants open a series against the Padres in San Diego on Friday.
