18 Positive Coronavirus Cases, 1 Death At Livermore VA Facility

The Livermore Community Living Center is investigating the outbreak, which has led to the death of one resident, officials have confirmed.

LIVERMORE, CA – The Livermore Community Living Center is investigating 19 cases of residents and staff members who have tested positive for the coronavirus in the past week, which has led to the death of a resident, officials at the Veterans Administration facility confirmed Monday.

Facility spokesman Armenthis Lester confirmed that 10 residents and nine staff members have tested positive for the coronavirus since June 21 and that veterans who have tested positive have been transferred to the Veterans Administration hospital in Palo Alto for care. To date, Lester said, one person has died from complications from the virus.

The Livermore facility is part of the Veterans Administration Palo Alto Health Care System and is located at 4951 Arroyo Road.

Per protocols established by the Centers for Disease Control and the Veteran’s Administration, all employees that exhibit symptoms of the coronavirus are immediately isolated to prevent the potential spread to other, the spokesman said. The spokesman added that the “track and trace” approach is an infection control and prevention standard operating procedure any time we identify a staff member who tests positive.

Lester said that all residents and staff members are tested every 3-4 days for the virus and the facility’s employee occupational health team is assisting and all employees have the proper personal protection equipment. As part of the guidelines, anyone who enters the facility is screened for the coronavirus and CDC officials have mandated that all staff members and residents wear face-coverings at all times.
