58-Year-Old Livermore Man Dies In Solo Bike Accident: LPD
A preliminary investigation shows the man was ejected over the handlebars and hit the pavement, suffering a fatal injury.
LIVERMORE, CA — A 58-year-old man died in a solo biking accident in Livermore Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed.
Just before 3 p.m., police responded to reports of a cyclist down near Encino Drive and Laguna Street, according to LPD spokesperson Azenith Smith. A passerby had begun performing CPR on the man, and paramedics took over. The man died at the scene.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the Livermore man was riding his bicycle eastbound on Encino Drive. Neighborhood video footage shows that the man seemed to have a mechanical issue with his bicycle, which caused him to be ejected over the handlebars. He then hit the pavement, and although he was wearing a helmet, suffered a fatal injury. There was no vehicle involved, and it does not appear that speed was a factor, Smith said.
