Flute/harp duo Chaski performs free concert "Oceans of Space"

Austin-based flute/harp duo Chaski continues its "Oceans of Space" tour schedule with a July 24 concert from 2-3 PM in Livermore, California, in the Community Room at the Livermore Public Library. The chamber music program "Oceans of Space" centers on music evocative of oceans and water.

Chaski’s performance July 14 in Georgetown, Texas, drew this response:

“Kudos on today's performance. The theme of the sea was intricately woven throughout the program. We could hear the dolphins. We felt the sadness of leaving of leaving home and the happiness of the Belfast music. We thoroughly enjoyed it.” —J. M.

Chaski commissioned American composer Brandon Nelson to write a work for the Oceans of Space tour. His piece is based on the stories of Celtic sea god Manannán mac Lir. The tour program highlights classical and folkloric music with ties to the sea. Audiences can expect whale song, hornpipes, jigs, reels, ragtime, and even a sea shanty. Tour concerts are suitable for all ages; children are very welcome. Admission is free.
