Bottom Line: Padgett's 24 points amounted for over half of Granada's point total and that proved costly on a young Granada team.

If Tyler Padgett is the only player scoring his team's points, it's going to be a long boys basketball season for the Matadors.
Padgett scored a game-high 24 points but the rest of his team scored just 22 as the Mats suffered a 51-46 loss to James Logan Friday in the consolation bracket of the Rob Vares Jr. Memorial Classic at Washington.
The game started out great for the Mats, who are 0-3 and searching for that all-elusive first victory. Padgett scored eight points, all in the paint, in the first quarter as Granada took an early 11-8 lead.
And while Padgett's point total was a game-high, he was held scoreless in a crucial second quarter.
"They did a good job of taking Tyler out of the game," Granada coach Mike Wood said.
Granada will play Pittsburg in the seventh-place at 3 p.m.
And with Padgett not getting much going, the Mats searched for someone else to pick up the slack. That just didn't come. Granada's next leading scorer, Brandon Bohl, had just eight points.
Then again, with such a young squad, this is what's expected this season – at least in the beginning.
"We got a young team and making adjustments on the fly is not going to be that quick," Wood said. "We have to develop that maturity on the court. It's a part of the learning curve and growing process."
Granada started one senior, Matt Epps, who was held scoreless. The other senior, Eddie Horn, was also held scoreless.
Still, Granada kept up its effort and closed to within 47-43 with 41 seconds left after a 7-0 run.
The Mats got to within 49-46 after a three-point play by Padgett with 23 seconds left.
But a key turnover and a couple of Logan free throws sealed the game.
"These close games are huge," Wood said. "Our league is about close tough games."
Two of Granada's three losses are by a combined nine points.
