The U-15 Regional Champions, Livermore Fusion FC 96B Maroon have made it to the National Cup Finals. They will be traveling to Chicago to compete in the national event that takes place this summer.
To make the finals, the team coached by Rob Hansen, had to place well in a series of qualifiers. Their battle to the regional championship consisted of three hard fought matches. The first was a resounding 8-1 defeat of Acemeicos 96 Gold. The boys then traded goals with Ceres Earthquakes FC in a match that ended in a 2-2 stalemate. Finally, they had a convincing 5 to 1 win defeat over the Force 97. Jake Foscalina lead the goal scoring for Livermore with additional goals by Osiris Chavez, Tony Jimenez, Daniel Garcia, Michael Brooks, Salvador Morales and Matthew Wells. The defense came up big in all four games with the great plays from Matthew Dremalas, Nolan Parker, Anthony Aguilar, and Joe Roberts, as well as phenomenal work from goalies Angel Salazar and Donnie Buchanan. The boy's showing in those three games gave them enough points to qualify for the regional championship match.
The US Club National Cup’s Western Regional U-15 Premier Championship match took place on June 16-19,2012. It was an epic day as Livermore fought dearly through 100 minutes on the pitch against DFC. The first hour of regulation time ended with both teams failing to find the back of the net. That was immediately followed by two more ten minute periods of overtimes, also ending with neither team successfully converting any of their chances.
This brought both teams to nerve wracking confines of a shootout to determine the regional winner. Livermore remained calm and was able to slot in 4 of their 5 chances from the penalty spot. Livermore was able to turn away two of the shots from DFC. That resulted in Livermore winning the game as well as a birth in the National Cup Finals. The boys will do their best to bring home the trophy from the tournament that runs from July 27th-July 30th.
As a fundraiser to help get the players to the finals, the team will be selling Mountain Mike Pizza coupons in the next 2 weeks. Please purchase coupons from the boys. Also, please print the attached flyer for the July 18th fundraiser at Melo's. Tax deductible donations can also be made through the Fusion Soccer Club.
