UPDATE: Deadly Plane Crash in Livermore

Officials confirm a small plane crashed in a field in Livermore around 9 p.m.

One person is dead after a plane crashed Monday night north of Livermore in unincorporated Alameda County, according to Alameda County Sheriff’s spokesperson JD Nelson.

“A small brush fire started as a result of the crash and is now out,” Nelson said. “The crash was reported just after 9 p.m. in the area of North Livermore Avenue and Hartford Avenue.”

Nelson said the Alameda County Coroner was enroute to the scene and no identification of the pilot had been made. The tail number of the aircraft is unknown at this time.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the single-engine Piper PA22 crashed at about 9 p.m. Gregor said the plane took off from the Livermore Municipal Airport and had control problems.

The crash started a two-acre grass fire, which firefighters extinguished, Alameda County fire Battalion Chief Bob Hopken said. Hopken said officials with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will begin investigating the crash later this morning, Hopken said.

The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and Livermore Police Department also responded to the crash.

Instagram user jessicathinks, whose photo is shown above, wrote, “A plane crashed in the field by our house. It doesn’t look good.”
