Virginia Amtrak Crash: California Representatives Aboard
Several state lawmakers tweeted from the deadly scene.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- At least eight California lawmakers were aboard an Albemarle County train that crashed into a dump truck, killing one person and injuring another. The GOP lawmakers, who were en route to a retreat, said no one on the train was injured. Amtrak said two crew members and three passengers suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The White House said President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation and is receiving regular updates.
Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Turlock), who was aboard the train, tweeted a photo of the damage. Denham wrote he was "fine."
"Many first responders and docs on the scene very quickly," Denham tweeted.

Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) said he was also uninjured.
"Those standing or moving on the train got tossed around but bruises at most," he tweeted. "The really bad part is one of 3 in truck is gone. Pray."
