Chabot Men’s Basketball Turning Up The Volume on ‘D’

Gladiators making strides under new coach McMiller; Daniels, McGlory bring toughness to the court

New Chabot men’s basketball coach Keenan McMiller can see his young team making strides, which fills him with optimism as he lays the groundwork for the program.

“We’re getting there, slowly but surely each game,” McMiller says.
Winning helps instill confidence as well.
The Gladiators (3-4) entered the week riding a two-game winning streak with victories over Shasta, 80-64, and Siskiyous, 73-59, both at home, wrapped around the unexpected cancellation of the Chabot Shootout due to air quality concerns caused by the Camp Fire in Paradise.
Chabot will host tough American River (3-2) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and they travel to Marin on Saturday.
In both victories Chabot played the kind of high-level defense McMiller preaches.
Akili Daniels led the way against Siskiyous with 27 points, shooting 9 of 14 from the floor and 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Jordan McGlory tacked on a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
McMiller describes Daniels as a “pure scorer, that’s why we recruited him. He’s tough. He’s a tough kid. He’s just learning how to use his fire the right way. Just be under control. Still be very aggressive but be under control.”
Another tough guy, McGlory is a transfer from Cal State East Bay and a James Logan High graduate.
“He’s super tough,” McMiller says of McGlory “We have some non-buy-in moments, but now he’s totally checking in to the whole thing. … He’s just tough. Guards tough, super active on the glass. He’s our leading rebounder. He’s almost averaging a double-double.”
