Chihuahua on the Lam Gives Cops a Run for Their Money

The energetic little dog is now safe at the nearby animal shelter thanks to the efforts of police and citizens.

Traffic on a residential street in Livermore ground to a halt this morning when drivers noticed a loose Chihuahua in the roadway, police officials said. Cars were parked all over the road at Arroyo Road and S L Street while the dog darted in and out of lanes, according to Officer Traci Rebiejo.

“I first thought it was a traffic crash but several people were trying to catch this dog running in the street,” Rebiejo said. “It wasn’t stopping so I thought if I followed it a little while it will get tired but NOPE— it ran about a mile until the nice lady walking by with Scooby snacks caught it.”

The dog was finally apprehended on Vancouver Way and Holmes St.

  • Carissa Habashzada: Same chihuahua I found roaming Inman by farm feed and First St. I tried catching him. Pretty quick for such small legs. Poor thing is probably tired.
  • Tiffany Oberg: That little dog ran past me on my run this morning. At about 9:45. I was at the corner of Pacific and S. Livermore.
  • Elizabeth Terry: Glad puppy is safe and warm.

The frisky pup, which does not have a collar or a microchip, is now safe at the East County Animal Shelter, according to police. If this is your dog, call East County Animal Control 925-803-7040 to pick him up.
