Coroner's Officials: Man Fatally Struck by Locomotive Was Livermore Resident

The man was hit and killed while on the tracks on July 17.

A man fatally struck in Livermore by a Union Pacific locomotive on Friday night has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as 57-year-old Marc Quinlan of Livermore. The collision is being investigated by Union Pacific Railroad officials.

Union Pacific Railroad spokesman Francisco Castillo told Patch the collision occurred in the area of Murrieta and Stanley boulevards at about 10 p.m. on July 17.

“A Union Pacific locomotive, heading eastbound, struck an adult male trespasser who sustained fatal injuries,” Castillo said Saturday morning. “The individual was kneeling in the middle of the tracks – facing the train – when he was struck.”

According to Castillo, no other injuries were reported and train traffic resumed around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
