East Bay Teams Win Sandia/California Regional Science Bowls
The Fremont team won the Sandia/California Regional Middle School Science Bowl at Las Positas College on Jan. 26.
From Sandia National Laboratories/California: Students from Hopkins Junior High School in Fremont, Calif., will represent the San Francisco Bay Area at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C, later this spring.
The team won the Sandia/California Regional Middle School Science Bowl at Las Positas College on Jan. 26.
In addition, for the sixth year in a row, students from Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, Calif., won the Sandia/California High School Regional Science Bowl.

DOE created the National Science Bowl in 1991 to encourage students to excel in math and science and pursue careers in related fields. More than 200,000 students have participated in the National Science Bowl since its inception. Sandia/California began coordinating the Regional Middle School Science Bowl in 2004 and the Regional High School Science Bowl in 1992.
Sandia/California’s regional Science Bowls are organized and administered by the Science Bowl committee, which includes Tim Shepodd, lead coordinator; Martha Campiotti; Stephan King-Monroe; Mark Musculus; and Danielle Oteri.
