LIVERMORE, CA — Livermore city staff and cyber security experts continue to work on restoring IT services at city hall that were taken down by a computer virus last month, but as of Tuesday night email was finally restored to all city departments.
"If you emailed the city while email was down, please allow several days for a response while staff download past messages and work through the backlog. Thank you for your patience," the city said on social media.
Earlier this month, the city reported that its network was experiencing ongoing impacts from the virus. During the Aug. 27 cyber attack, Livermore staff determined that the virus started sending unauthorized emails from city staff accounts to residents.
On Sept. 12, staff took down pieces of the city's computer network to try and isolate the problems. Vital services continued to operate, according to officials, and residents have been updated on the IT woes via the city's social media pages.
The city's phone system was also impacted by the hack.
