Livermore Dogtoberfest Tries (Again) to Break Guinness World Record for Most Dogs Wearing a Bandana
Hundreds of dogs and pet owners from all over the East Bay gathered once again to try to bust the record held by Australians.
LIVERMORE, CA — Some dogs seemed to rock their bandanas and some seemed much less excited about wearing their colorful neck accessories during the recent 2016 Dogtoberfest in Livermore. Hundreds of dogs and their excited owners from all over the East Bay gathered on Oct. 2 to try to break the Guinness World Record for the most dogs wearing a bandana.
The 2016 attempt is the second time Livermore has tried to break the record, according to parks district officials.
“To put the attempt in perspective, the record was broken by Canberra, Australia, in 2015 with 764 dogs,” Livermore Area Recreation and Parks District spokesperson Lea Blevins told Patch. “As Australia’s capital, Canberra is the country’s eighth largest city with about 381,000 residents.”

Blevins said the 2016 attempt brought 460 dogs together, which made for a barking good time but did not break the record. The Livermore community and their furry canine friends are not the type to put their tails between their legs and give up.
“Based on Livermore’s size relative to Canberra, and not being a capital city, Livermore did outstanding – actually statistically better than the current record,” Blevins said.

If you own a dog, mark your calendars for next October because Blevins says the park district plans to try again during the 2017 Dogtoberfest. The popular event also offers Oktoberfest beers, dog demos and pet vendors.
