Livermore Extends Cooling-Center Hours

LIVERMORE, CA — Due to blistering temperatures in the forecast, the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District and the City of Livermore have extended operations at the local cooling center through the weekend.

The Robert Livermore Community Center, at 4444 East Ave., will be open to locals, particularly seniors and residents without air conditioning, as follows:

• Thursday, Aug. 20 - 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.;
• Friday, Aug. 21 - 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.;
• Saturday, Aug. 22 - 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.;
• Sunday, Aug. 23 - 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Social distancing and face covering are required, and capacity will be limited in compliance with Alameda County health orders, officials said, adding that bottled water will be available, and masks will be provided if needed.

Those who arrive will be asked screening questions and have temperatures taken before entering the facility. Residents with fevers or those exposed to COVID-19, exhibiting symptoms or recently ordered to quarantine or isolate are asked to not visit the center.

Locals also are reminded to check in on any vulnerable acquaintances, including older adults or infirm neighbors, without air conditioning, to ensure they are staying cool and drinking plenty of water.

"If you see someone on the street who may be having a severe reaction to the heat, please call 911," the department said.
