Livermore Honors Late Officer On Day Of Funeral Service

LIVERMORE, CA — On Thursday Livermore paid tribute to late police officer Maximiliano "Max" Messina Thursday, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer earlier this month.

Messina, remembered by colleagues as "a big teddy bear" dedicated to his family and community, was honored with a funeral service and procession.

The Livermore Police Department invited the public to stand along the funeral procession, which was slated to head from Jensen Way, to East Avenue, to Livermore Avenue, to N. Livermore Avenue through downtown, past the flagpole. The procession was set to proceed north past the flagpole.

Many people sought to support Messina and his family by stopping by the procession route, police said. The public was asked to wear masks and socially distance.

Messina served Livermore for seven years and enjoyed a 21-year career in law enforcement. His love for public service was surpassed only by his love for his two sons and wife, police said.

"We miss you so much already, brother," police previously said.
