Livermore Mom Reunited With Heroin-Addicted Son

Corey Sylvester is back home, but now his mother is trying to get treatment for him.

LIVERMORE, CA — A Livermore mother who was desperately trying to find her son has been reunited with him. Now comes the hard part.

Jacqueline Berlinn told NBC Bay Area in September that it had been months since she had seen her grown child Corey Sylvester. He was addicted to heroin and living on the streets, Berlinn said.

But NBC Bay Area reported last week that Sylvester was back home, and now Berlinn is trying to get treatment for him.

The story came to the media's attention after a photo of Sylvester passed out on a BART train popped up on the "B.A.R.T. Rants and Raves" Facebook page, and some of the comments were pretty hateful. Berlinn decided to respond.

"This is my son," she posted, and shared an old photo of Sylvester when he was sober with the caption, "May he return there soon."

Many compassionate riders typed back that they would keep an eye out for her child.

"Just say a kind word to him," Berlinn said. "Tell him your mother loves you, she wants you to be healthy."

As a result of all the attention, complete strangers were coming up to her son on the street and telling him to call his mother and go back home, which he finally did, Berlinn told NBC.
