Livermore Phantom Lacrosse League Hosting New Player Clinic on Sunday
The clinic runs from 3:00 pm – 5:30pm at Robertson Park Turf Field on Nov. 2.

Lacrosse may be a sport you have heard of if you’ve lived on the East Coast where lacrosse is as popular as football. It is only in recent years the sport has gained some traction here in the West Coast, and Livermore is no exception. The Livermore Phantom Lacrosse League was formed in 2005 for recreational and developmental purposes to serve players from ages 7 to 15. As one of the fastest growing sports in America, local Livermore Phantom Lacrosse League reported a record setting roster surpassing 100 players last season. Some of those new U-11 and U-13 players contributed to the best scoring and wins record since inception as a league.
According to US Lacrosse, children 15 years old and younger represent the fastest growing segment of the sport. Participation for boys has risen by more than 55 percent over the last five years while it’s grown by about 43 percent for girls.
Livermore Phantoms Lacrosse Board President, Greg Herweg, shares, “Our league has grown significantly since its inception. Every year we experience a new record number of players on our roster, and this year appears to be no different as we’re planning for two teams per age group.”

Rooted in Native American tradition, lacrosse is the oldest and formerly most popular game on the continent. It attracts new players for its quick pace and strategy. Height, size and weight don’t appear to be factors determining a player’s success. Kids are particularly interested in holding and learning to maneuver a lacrosse stick, too.
With the spring season registration underway, Livermore Phantom Lacrosse League is hosting a New Player Clinic on Sunday, November 2 at Robertson Park Turf Field to help introduce the sport to new players.

“Last year this event had over 50 boys and girls trying out lacrosse for the first time. It’s a lot of fun for the kids and provides the parents with information on the sport,” remarked Dave Warner, Livermore Phantoms Lacrosse Head of Coaching & Boys Coordinator. For just $40, each new player enrolled in the clinic also receives a new lacrosse stick and ball.
League coaches and experienced lacrosse players alike will introduce basic lacrosse skills and drills. And, most importantly, new players will personally experience the fun lacrosse offers. The clinic will conclude with a short scrimmage game by current Phantom players to show new players and parents how the game is played.
The clinic runs from 3:00 pm – 5:30pm at Robertson Park Turf Field located at 3200 Robertson Park Road, Livermore. For more information, or to enroll in the clinic, visit www.phantomlacrosse.org.
