Two Livermore churches were defaced over the last two weeks by vandals who used markers and spray paint to draw swastikas, pentagrams and write hate speech and profanity, Livermore Police officials said.

“The Mormon Church and the Lutheran Church, both on Mocho Street, were tagged two times each, on four different days,” Officer Traci Rebiejo confirmed. “We know they are related.”

Rebiejo says the vandalism at the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Preschool likely occurred sometime between the late afternoon hours into the night during each incident.

Rebiejo told Patch, “We are taking this seriously. We have extra patrols checking the churches and neighbors are helping to watch as well.”

CBS 5 KPIX reported neighbors in the area said it took several hours to clean up some of the graffiti. According to Rebiejo, the location of the churches pose a challenge for officers because Rebiejo says there is easy access to the campuses from the back of the buildings.
