Email, Phones Still Impacted By Virus At Livermore City Hall

Emergency services and 9-1-1 services are operational, although the city email system is down as are some city phone lines.

Update, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019 at 10:24 a.m.:

LIVERMORE, CA — City staff and experts from the California Office of Emergency Services and Alameda County continue to work on restoring IT services at Livermore City Hall that were taken down by a computer virus.

As of Tuesday evening, the city reported that the team is making progress and is bringing portions of the network back online for testing purposes. Emergency services and 9-1-1 services are operational, although the city email system is not functional and some city phone lines still have intermittent service.

If attempting to call a city phone line during business hours and voicemail does not pick up, try again later, the city is advising.

Service disruptions are likely to continue through the remainder of the week.

Last week, the city reported that its network was experiencing ongoing impacts from a computer virus discovered last month. During the Aug. 27 cyber attack, Livermore staff determined that a virus started sending unauthorized emails from city staff accounts to residents.

LIVERMORE, CA — The city is continuing to troubleshoot issues with its computer and phone systems, but as of Monday evening the IT problems persist.

"City staff and experts from the California Office of Emergency Services and Alameda County continue to work on restoring IT services that were taken down by a computer virus," the city wrote in a social media post late Monday. "City voicemail is now back up intermittently. The city email system is not currently functional and some city phone lines still have intermittent service.

"If attempting to call a city phone line during business hours and voicemail does not pick up, please try again later."

Last week, the city reported that its network was experiencing ongoing impacts from a computer virus discovered last month. During the Aug. 27 cyber attack, Livermore staff determined that a virus started sending unauthorized emails from city staff accounts to residents.

On Thursday, staff took down pieces of the city's computer network to try and isolate the problems. Friday the city said vital services continue to operate.

The city is keeping residents updated on the IT woes via its social media pages.
