Quail Chicks Rescued From Livermore Storm Drain

The rescue took about 15 minutes.

LIVERMORE, CA — Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department crews respond to traffic collisions, extinguish fires, help residents suffering from medical emergencies and rescue all kinds of animals in distress. Most recently, firefighters rescued a dozen quail chicks after they fell into a Livermore drain Sunday morning.

The firefighters were able to fish out all of the chicks in about 15 minutes. The worried parents hid nearby and were eventually reunited with their little ones.

All kinds of chicks seem to be falling down East Bay drains lately. In Lamorinda, Moraga-Orinda firefighters rescued turkey chicks from a drain and in San Leandro, resourceful firefighters used recording of a duck call on YouTube to help rescue a pair of tiny ducklings.
