Woman Murdered At BART Station Identified

The knife-wielding man escaped into the night but was arrested Monday aboard a BART train.

OAKLAND, CA — Two women were stabbed in a random attack at the MacArthur BART station in Oakland Sunday night, according to a BART spokesman. One woman died, while the other is hospitalized. The woman who died has been identified by Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf as 18-year-old Nia Wilson. The attacker was arrested Monday night.

The mayor called the stabbings a horrific act. In a statement, she said, "The senseless and violent stabbing of two young women on a BART train platform last night has shaken our community."

"We all mourn in this moment and we will all work together to bring justice for Nia," Schaaf said.

The bloody attack happened around 9:45 p.m. as the women stepped off a Warm Springs-bound train, according to a written release from Jim Allison, BART spokesman.

BART closed the station overnight as the women were helped, the police investigation was conducted and the station cleaned. It opened at 4 a.m., its usual opening time. Passengers who needed to reach the MacArthur station Sunday night rode a bus.
