Uptick In Livermore Burglaries Prompts Warning From Police

Police have recently increased their patrols in the area and detectives are investigating the residential burglaries.

LIVERMORE, CA — Police have issued a warning to residents to lock their doors following an uptick in home burglaries reported in Livermore last month. Overall, burglaries are down in 2017, however, police have investigated about dozen residential burglary reports in November. The majority of the burglaries have been reported during the morning hours. Suspects kicked the doors open to gain access into six homes and four of the homes were simply left unlocked.

Police said holidays can be an enticing time of year for criminals who know gifts may be under Christmas trees and easily accessible in homes. Police encourage residents to lock doors, use security surveillance cameras, call police to investigate any suspicious activity and coordinate with neighbors for package deliveries. Police said the best line of defense is to make a house appear "lived in" to deter would be thieves.

Police have increased their patrols in the south Livermore area and detectives are investigating the burglaries. They said the holiday season is a good time to mark valuables, log serial numbers and take videos for documentation in case items are stolen.

Officials say Tri-Valley residents can also take steps to protect themselves from opportunistic criminals when placing online orders. Police suggest shoppers request proof of delivery and signatures on orders whenever possible. They ask residents to track packages and have items delivered to work, a trusted neighbor, relative, shipping distribution centers or Amazon Locker. Police say criminals often follow delivery trucks.

Cars in Tri-Valley are also still being targeted be thieves. Police are asking for the public's help identifying a person suspected of burglarizing a parked car in Danville early Saturday morning, police said. Home video surveillance captured the crime on Hartford Road at 1:35 a.m. In Dublin, police shared photos of a car likely casing the Positano neighborhood.
