WATCH: Firefighters Douse Windmill Fire on Altamont Pass
Good water pressure is a plus when hosing down a windmill tower.
LIVERMORE, CA - Alameda County firefighters doused a windmill fire on Old Altamont Road in Livermore on Monday.
They received the emergency call just before 10 a.m. The fire agency mounted a huge response, sending Battalion 3, Engine 8, Engine 320, Rescue 24, Water Tender 16, LPFD E-94 and Tracy FD E-94.
Battalion Chief John Walsh explains the response, "Some towers are 240 feet tall and technicians can be working inside of them, thus having a high angle rescue resource inbound is prudent. The other issue is wildfire potential, so until we rule such issues out we keep resources coming based on the potential."
Right now the hills are still green, but it won't belong before the grasslands are tinder dry increasing the chance of a wind-driven wildfire.
Alameda County Fire posted photos and a video of the firefighters exploits on its Facebook page.
