$100 Mill Outdoor Mall To Replace Run-Down Long Beach Hotel
An earlier proposal included denser development, including a residential high-rise & hotel, but was rejected by city officials.

LONG BEACH, CA – A $100 million outdoor mall will replace the run-down hotel near the water in southeast Long Beach. The replacement mall will emphasize on food and leisure, focusing on providing experiences instead of goods – this approach reflects the growth of online purchasing at the expense of conventional department stores and boutiques, according to Los Angeles Times.
The center, called 2nd & PCH, will have large outdoor roof decks overlooking Alamitos Bay Marina and the ocean, where visitors will be able to have a drink, eat, lounge, or even do yoga – it's expected to open in spring 2019, Los Angeles Times reported.
“We’re trying to reflect the changing tastes of consumers,” Fred Bruning, chief executive of CenterCal Properties, the El Segundo company building the Pacific Coast Highway mall, told Los Angeles Times.

An earlier proposal of a revamp for the 11-acre sit called for denser development that included a residential high-rise and hotel, but was rejected by city officials partially due to the potential increase in traffic throughout the surrounding neighborhood.
Like its name, the property is on 2nd Street near Seal Beach and Naples.

“We want this to be a place where people can open up their laptops and just ‘be,’ instead of being a place you’re only going to shop,” Bruning told Los Angeles Times.
