2 Women Beaten, 1 Stabbed At Bus Stop Near Long Beach Poly High School

Both women were walking in the area near the high school when the same man approached them, beat them and stabbed one woman, LBPD said.

LONG BEACH, CA — Two women were beaten and one was stabbed while walking to a bus stop near Long Beach Polytechnic High School Monday night, authorities said.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Atlantic Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. Monday night after receiving a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found a woman with non-life-threatening stab wounds in the upper body.

"The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was walking up to a bus stop when a male adult suspect approached her, battered her, and stabbed her," LBPD said in a statement.

Upon further investigation, officers found another woman who said she was walking in the same area near Pacific Coast Highway and Atlantic Avenue when the same suspect approached her and beat her. Paramedics provided medical aid to both women and the woman who was stabbed was taken to a local hospital, according to authorities.

The suspect was identified as 48-year-old Xavier Howell, who was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery and robbery, LBPD said. Howell is in custody at Long Beach City jail and his bail was set at $50,000.
