Driver Remains At Large After Fatal Long Beach Hit-And-Run

Police told Patch Friday that a vehicle description remains under investigation after a man was struck and killed on Anaheim Street.

LONG BEACH, CA — A driver who struck and killed a man on Anaheim Street Thursday morning remained at large Friday as Long Beach police continued searching for information about the vehicle involved.

The man was struck at about 7:10 a.m. while in the roadway on westbound Anaheim Street between Harbor Avenue and the 710 Freeway, according to Long Beach police. The driver fled after the collision, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

An unidentified vehicle struck the man and fled, LBPD spokesperson Jordan McGinley told the Long Beach Post. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed to Patch Friday afternoon that the driver remained outstanding and that investigators had not publicly identified the vehicle involved.

"The suspect remains outstanding and vehicle description is under investigation," Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Officer Eric Stachura said. He told Patch that the circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

The victim's name and age had not been publicly released as of Friday afternoon. Stachura said the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will identify the man and notify his next of kin. Thursday's collision was Long Beach's 36th fatal traffic collision of 2026, according to the Post, extending a particularly deadly period on the city's streets.

Six people were killed in separate traffic collisions between Sept. 4 and Sept. 21, including three pedestrians, a bicyclist, a motorcyclist and a man using a wheelchair, as Patch previously reported.

The most recent of those deaths occurred Sept. 21, when 48-year-old Kellee Devers was struck while lying in the roadway near Pacific Avenue and Sixth Street. Her death marked the city's 35th fatal traffic collision of the year.

The latest death comes as Long Beach reaches the target year of its Safe Streets Long Beach initiative, which established a goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2026.
