Caltrans is still finalizing detours but expects round-the-clock construction, added traffic controls, and signal adjustments as the region works to keep port cargo and neighborhood streets moving.

3. 2 men get decades-long sentences for 2022 fatal shooting in North Long Beach (presstelegram.com) β Two men have received 27- and 32-year prison sentences for a deadly 2022 drive-by shooting in North Long Beach that killed 46-year-old Kacy Lloyd. Investigators tied them to the crime using surveillance footage, cellphone data, and a witness who found a shell casing in the suspect's car, bringing some resolution to a long-running neighborhood case.

Long Beach Shakespeare Company Unveils October Radio Show Season (broadwayworld.com) β Long Beach theater fans can catch a full month of classic radio-play thrillers at the Helen Borgers Theatre on Atlantic Avenue, starting this weekend with Poe and Bradbury. Additional October shows include Frankenstein and the annual War of the Worlds, all at $20 general admission, giving North Long Beach neighbors several spooky, affordable nights out close to home.

Art Theatre of Long Beach (discoverlosangeles.com) β Local residents and business owners are invited to Long Beach Rising at the Art Theatre on October 21, where city leaders and the state treasurer will discuss how LA28 can drive lasting jobs and investment here. The morning forum focuses on infrastructure, tourism, workforce development, and ways Long Beach organizations can plug into Olympic-related opportunities.
