1. Police Release Photos Of Driver, Truck Sought In Fatal Long Beach Hit-And-Run (patch.com) — Long Beach police are asking for the public's help identifying a semi-truck driver involved in a September hit-and-run that fatally injured 68-year-old bicyclist and Long Beach resident Kevin Moran near West Pacific Coast Highway and Canal Avenue. Investigators released photos and surveillance footage of the white tractor with a blue trailer and orange container, and provided contact information for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or security video from the area.
2. Long Beach Council Votes To Restrict Public Comment At Meetings (patch.com) — Long Beach residents should know the City Council has voted 6–3 to shift most public comments into a single 90‑minute period near the start of meetings, with a final vote set for Oct. 13. Supporters say the change could save overtime costs and make meetings more predictable, while opponents worry residents must speak before hearing full staff presentations and council debate.
3. Rendering vs. Reality: Affordable housing at 1400 Long Beach Blvd. (urbanize.city) — Long Beach has added a major new affordable housing option at 1400 Long Beach Boulevard, where a six‑story complex called Luma Point now offers 163 income‑restricted apartments. The project includes family‑friendly features like a community room, courtyard, and children's play area, and builds on Meta Housing's other affordable developments along the boulevard serving lower‑income renters.
4. For a Good Cause: Runners can donate shoes, athletic clothing at Long Beach Marathon (presstelegram.com) — Long Beach runners and spectators can support neighbors in need during this weekend's sold-out Long Beach Marathon by donating gently used shoes and athletic clothing at the expo or Finish Line Festival. You can also join the Long Beach Race for Rare 5K at Granada Launch Ramp, where registration fees and participation help fund research and support for families facing rare MPS and ML diseases.
5. Long Beach City College Breaks Ground on New Student Housing Complex (lbcc.edu) — Long Beach City College has broken ground on its first-ever on-campus student housing complex at the Liberal Arts Campus, bringing 431 beds and new community spaces to local students. Funded by voter-approved Measures LB and AC and aligned with the Long Beach Housing Promise, the LEED Gold-aimed project is designed with neighborhood input and is expected to open in fall 2028.
