LBPD In Search Of Man Accused Of Attempting To Kidnap 12-Year-Old Girl
Officers said the man wrapped his arms around the 12-year-old but she was able to free herself and call police.

LONG BEACH, CA — The Long Beach Police Department is in search of a man who is accused of grabbing a 12-year-old girl walking near Washington Middle School Thursday morning.
According to authorities, the girl was walking in the area at about 8:30 a.m. when she was approached by an adult man who wrapped his arms around her and attempted to kidnap her. The girl was able to free herself from the man's grip, run away and report the incident to LBPD, police said.
"She was physically unharmed, and the investigation is ongoing," LBPD said in a statement.

Officials reminded the community to be aware of their surroundings in case of dangerous situations like these.

- Walk in pairs or groups when possible;
- Look after one another;
- Walk in highly trafficked areas.
Police said West Division Patrol officers and the Neighborhood Safety Bike Team are conducting additional patrols in the area in response to the attempted kidnapping.
Residents were urged to call 562-435-6711 to report criminal activity or call 911 in case of an emergency.
