LBUSD: Students Go Behind-The-Scenes At Grand Prix Of Long Beach

The Long Beach Unified School District partnered once again with Banc of California and the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach to bring 150 high school students for a day of learning at this year’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

In attendance were junior and senior students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics from California Academy of Math and Science, Cabrillo, Jordan, McBride, Sato and Avalon high schools.

Students toured race paddocks, where race teams prepare their cars for the racetrack, as well as the pit lane and the Lifestyle Expo featuring the latest in home, automotive and personal products. The students also had a chance to watch the race cars run on the track and hear from guest speakers from the racing community, courtesy of Banc of California.

“It is such a unique opportunity for students to learn about a wide array of careers and opportunities at a fun, high-profile event,” said Dr. Jay Camerino, LBUSD Assistant Superintendent of High Schools. “Students are able to see how STEM is fundamental in the building and maintenance of high-tech race cars, which is a really exciting career-linked learning connection.”
