Man Beaten, Shot To Death Near Drake Park
A man was attacked by multiple people and shot to death near Drake Park Tuesday night, LBPD said.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man was physically attacked by multiple people and shot to death near Drake Park Tuesday night, the Long Beach Police Department said.
According to LBPD, nearby residents reported hearing gunshots in the 900 block of Maine Avenue at about 11:03 p.m. on July 11. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man lying on the ground near Loma Vista Drive and Corvo Court bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police and fire department paramedics attempted to provide life-saving medical aid to the man until he was transported to a local hospital. The man was later declared dead at the hospital, LBPD said.

Preliminary investigation results revealed that the victim was approached by several men he didn't know who began to beat him.
"During the assault, one of the suspects fired multiple gunshots toward the victim, which ultimately resulted in the victim's death," LBPD said in a statement.

Detectives said the motivation for the attack is still unknown and remains under investigation.
The identity of the victim is unknown, police said. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office will work to identify him and notify his next of kin.
